Naomi Watts in Zambia
Naomi Watts met King Kong and T-Rexes but nothing prepared her for a life-changing trip to Africa visiting children orphaned by HIV/AIDS. Naomi has spoken for the first time about her new role as the United Nation’s special representative for HIV/AIDS.

In the August edition of the Australian Women’s Weekly, Watts said she was devastated by what she saw during her visit to Zambia this year.
“I saw children raising children and I can’t tell you how it affected me,” Watts said.
“You see nine-year-olds raising their brothers and sisters. The tragedy is not just losing their parents to AIDS, but how their lives afterwards can become so violent. They explained how they had to fend for themselves on the streets – stealing and selling themselves to survive.”
