Naomi Watts doesn’t like the Oscars
Naomi Watts doesn’t approve of the Oscars. Naomi - who received a Best Actress nomination for her role in 21 Grams in 2004 - believes filmmaking should not be a competition.
“I’m not going to lie, it’s nice to get recognition from your peers. It means a lot. But I also feel one’s work shouldn’t be judged against someone else’s. It’s not a competition.”
“You get asked to do an enormous amount of publicity to promote your chances, and I don’t necessarily think it works.”
“It isn’t what acting and making movies is all about. When I wasn’t nominated for Mulholland Drive in 2001 everyone kept saying ‘Oh, sorry you’re not nominated’, when the thought of being on the shortlist hadn’t even crossed my mind in the first place.”
