Naomi was among the family and close friends who attended a private memorial for late actor Heath Ledger in Los Angeles on Saturday (26Jan08) night.
The 30-minute service took place at Westwood Village Memorial Park, just hours after 1,000 guests at an Australian event in New York listened to a message from Ledger’s father Kim, read out by Australia’s consul-general.
Naomi dated Ledger for two years after meeting him on the set of Ned Kelly
in 2002 and was “visibly upset” during the memorial service, reports Australian network Channel 7.
Ledger, 28, was found dead in his New York apartment on Tuesday (22Jan08). An autopsy carried out on Wednesday (23Jan08) failed to reveal how the actor died, although police believe his death could be drug-related as sleeping pills were found by his bed.
He will be buried in his hometown of Perth, Australia.
Naomi also cancelled all her press at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, where she was set to promote her upcoming thriller Funny Games. Showing how hard Heath’s death is hitting home for Naomi, she also will not attend the movie’s premiere

Naomi Watts doesn’t approve of the Oscars. Naomi – who received a Best Actress nomination for her role in 21 Grams
in 2004 – believes filmmaking should not be a competition.
“I’m not going to lie, it’s nice to get recognition from your peers. It means a lot. But I also feel one’s work shouldn’t be judged against someone else’s. It’s not a competition.”
“You get asked to do an enormous amount of publicity to promote your chances, and I don’t necessarily think it works.”
“It isn’t what acting and making movies is all about. When I wasn’t nominated for Mulholland Drive
in 2001 everyone kept saying ‘Oh, sorry you’re not nominated’, when the thought of being on the shortlist hadn’t even crossed my mind in the first place.”
